The belief in humanistic psychology is that every person is unique.
Everyone has individual qualities that make them the person they are.
The qualities they carry should be an indicator on how they should be treated by a psychologist or psychiatrist. In rehab, I am in a leadership committee where I try and help other newcomers get sober. It is especially important that you build a friendship with these young people. Being a teenager and getting sober is extremely difficult and can feel lonely sometimes. When approaching a friendship, I have to keep in mind that everyone has experiences that I will never be able to relate to. Making sure to listen to their stories is extremely important because without honesty, willingness or open mindedness, they will not get sober. I like the idea of helping others in things that I struggled with and giving back to people that were in my position is the best way to show that.
